インドのシン首相がカシミール地方を訪れている。また同地方に展開するインド軍の一部が撤退を開始した。

Singh has cited a reduction of separatist violence in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir as a reason for the troop reduction, but militants launched an attack just hours before his arrival in the Srinagar, the state's summer capital.

Estimates of India's troop strength in Kashmir range from 250,000 to 500,000. India has not announced how many troops will be withdrawn from the region but news reports have said about 40,000 troops would be redeployed.
